I have more than 22 years of experience ranging from small startups to large global corporations. Before Brilliant Forge and my current startup, I was a Product and Design executive leading teams that designed, defined, and built consumer products at a number of technology and internet companies in Silicon Valley; including Apple Computer, Yahoo, eBay, and IBM. I’ve raised funding for startups, built teams and evolved organizations at companies of all sizes, and worn numerous hats for product management, design, marketing, and advertising. Every business faces challenges and I’m happy to help you find the right ways to overcome them and succeed. I prefer to work with independent business owners, but I can work with companies of all sizes. Contact me today for an initial discussion about what you think your business needs.
It’s often hard to find an objective and trustworthy mentor to help guide you in your career decisions. When you’re struggling with a challenging situation at work and tough personal choices, you often can’t turn to your boss or colleagues for advice (they might be part of the problem!). I know, I’ve been there. I came to Silicon Valley as an entry-level designer and worked my way up to being an executive at some of the biggest tech companies in the world, and eventually becoming the CEO and founder of my own startup. It certainly wasn’t easy and I made a lot of mistakes that I learned from along the way. I have also benefited greatly from executive coaching in my own career, so I know how valuable the support and guidance is. Contact me now to schedule an initial discovery session and we can discuss the challenges you are facing.
I have spoken at numerous public events, conferences, workshops, and keynotes on the topics of design, product management, innovation, creativity, product strategy, and organizational models. I can also be booked for internal corporate events. As examples; you can check out talks I gave at Airbnb and the Fluxible conference on “Designing for Love and Money“.
Many clients prefer a retainer-based model that secures dedicated time for advisory services on a monthly basis. This is typically structured as either weekly check-ins or a 1-day meeting to review products and progress, discuss industry trends and issues, brainstorm new concepts, etc.
Short-term consulting engagements can be used to temporarily add me to your team to help you plan and kickstart a new innovation program, for product brainstorming and design sessions, to help you deliver a new user experience for your product or service, for a review of your organization and processes, or for training sessions.
“Larry and I partnered to lead the redesign of eHealth’s core shopping experience. He was a pleasure to work with. The numbers all went up and to the right. Larry, more than any designer I’ve ever worked with, is able to connect the dots between the business needs and the user’s needs. He’s creative, resourceful, and effective. He raises the game of everyone around him.”
– Mike Tadlock, Vice President, Product Management at eHealth
“I hired Larry to help me build/recruit/hire and lead (on an interim basis) the user experience design team at eHealth, essentially from scratch. I’m extremely pleased with Larry’s work with us. I have worked with Larry for over a decade at previous companies like eBay and Yahoo, and he continues to impress me with his expertise in design thought leadership, his personable and collaborative style, and reliability and integrity. I highly recommend Larry and look forward to working with him well into the future.”
– Tom Tsao, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Design, and Analytics at eHealth
“Since July 2010 Larry has been an invaluable consultant and advisor to our firm. His knowledge, experience and contacts have helped us move our company forward in ways that would have been impossible without his involvement. We continue to benefit from his guidance and I would not hesitate to recommend him.”
– Yvan Couture, CEO, Primal
“We invited Larry to speak at Fluxible 2013 and couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome. He delivered an inspiring talk titled “Designing for Love & Money”, about the tensions designers face in doing what they love professionally and serving the needs of business. Drawing on his deep experience as both designer and mentor, Larry helped everyone think through these issues and feel re-energized about their careers. He connected with the audience throughout the 2-day event, carrying the conversation forward and providing friendly encouragement — so it’s no surprise his talk was one of the highlights of the program.”
– Robert Barlow-Busch, VP Experience Design, Demeure
“As a former Yahoo! Search Executive, Larry Cornett brings priceless first-hand knowledge to any startup.”
– Scott Stouffer, Co-Founder and President, Technology at The SEO Engine
“I have had the pleasure to work with Larry on multiple projects as a trusted advisor and valuable business partner. With over 18 years of experience in the Silicon Valley tech industry, he has a hands-on understanding of how to create innovative consumer products, how to organize Product and Design teams, and how to get things done. His specific experiences and insights in consumer technology, search, and e-commerce make him a valuable expert that our clients can turn to for practical advice.”
– Nomaan Latif, Vice President, Technology, Media & Telecom, Gerson Lehrman Group
“I first worked with Larry at eBay. I then had opportunity to collaborate with him and his company Brilliant Forge. Larry is a leader full of charisma. Larry is an expert of user experience design and innovation. He is also a great speaker. With his experience with Apple, eBay, and Yahoo, his approach of innovation is a balanced view of business, user, and technology. Highly recommended!”
– Paul Fu, Director, User Experience, Alibaba.com
“I had the great pleasure to collaborate with Larry during an event that I organised for all WW Product Managers of Dassault Systems (leader in PLM and 3D collaborative solutions), last january in Paris. Larry is such a motivating and passionate speaker to lead and inspire new strong user’s experiences.”
– Bertrand Biard, CEO, C105
“Larry is a consummate product guy – he knows the pulse of what users really want and he can envision the product to deliver that to users before anybody else. His design & consumer product sense is simply the best. To top it all he is one of those leaders who can bring the best out of you – certainly true for me and my team. Larry is a fantastic communicator btw – and coupled with his super design background, his presentations are Jobs-esque! I’d definitely work for/with him anytime.”
– Kaushal Kurapati, Head of Search Operations Emerging Markets, Yahoo!
