<description>[...] Roulston Research Partner Larry Cornett recently commented on the findings from the recent Nielsen Social Media Report. Larry was not shocked that social networks and blogs take up 1/4th of our time online. However, he was surprised microblogging company Tumblr ranked third in time spent online ahead of Twitter and LinkedIn. The site has nearly tripled its audience over the past year and had 15 million unique visitors last month alone. Tumblr allows more engagement between followers than Facebook and Twitter because posts can be reblogged very easily. This is creating popularity among its users but it could also lead to future copyright infringement lawsuits because a lot of the content is reposted or slightly modified. To read Larry’s full article on highlights on Nielsen’s Social Media report and why Tumblr is the emerging player in the competitive Social Media industry please visit http://www.brilliantforge.com/2011/09/12/social-networks-and-blogs-dominate-time-spent-online-with-t.... <description>[...] Roulston Research Technology Partner Larry Cornett recently created a blog posting today on why startups fail or succeed in Silicon Valley. Blackbox conducted analysis on 3,200 high growth technology startups and released the report to the public which you can view here. The biggest takeaway that Larry got from the report was that startups need great mentors. Surprisingly hands-on help from investors did not have a significant positive affect on their performance. Most startups believe that once they obtain backing from a prominent venture capital firm that they will have all the guidance they need to become a successful organization and that simply is not the case. Two of the biggest reasons that startups fail are premature scaling and investing too much capital into the business initially. Having a successful mentor or team of mentors can mitigate these factors and increase the chance of success. To read Larry’s full article to see his opinions on the blackbox study please visit Brilliant FORGE’s blog at http://www.brilliantforge.com/2011/09/01/why-do-startups-fail-an-analysis-of-3200-high-growth-techno....
